Ruby M. Flavin 91, of 136A Arch Street, and formerly of Court Street, Keene, NH, died peacefully, Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Langdon Place of Keene.

She was born in West Milan, NH, June 5, 1923, the daughter of Ashley and Naomi (Ladd) Nichols. Her family moved to Keene when Ruby was two years of age.

Following her graduation from Keene High School in 1941, she went to work at the former Kingsbury Machine Tool Corporation (KMTC) in Keene as a personal secretary to Mr. Kingsbury where she worked for nineteen years. It was while working at KMTC that she met her future husband, Thomas W. Flavin, Sr., who was working as manager in the engineering department following his discharge from serving in the Army, stationed in Germany, during World War II.

One of Ruby and Tom's passions was traveling. They enjoyed visiting friends in England and Scotland. Their favorite place to spend time with their family was Ogunquit Beach, Maine when their children were young, and later at their condo on Sanibel Island, Florida.

Ruby enjoyed her gardens and taking care of her home. She also loved art, and was an accomplished oil painter. She enjoyed doing ceramics, sewing, and cooking. Her favorite pastime was the time she was able to spend with her family, especially her cherished great-grandsons, Cameron and Nathan, and her good friends.

The couple was blessed with two children, Thomas W. Flavin, Jr. and Judith Flavin Friedman, and a grandson, Ryan T. Friedman, who was the "apple of Ruby's eye". Following the death of Judith from leukemia, Ryan was raised by his grandparents with the help of Tom and his wife, Karen, who became a very important part of the Flavin family.

Mrs. Flavin is survived by her son, Thomas W. Flavin, Jr., and his wife, Karen, both of Surry, NH; her grandson, Ryan T. Friedman and his wife Dara both of Nashua, NH; great-grandsons, Cameron and Nathan; and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Thomas W. Flavin, Sr., her daughter, Judith Friedman and two sisters, Lois Whitney and Lila Ruelke died earlier.

Funeral services and burial in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Keene, will be private at a later date.

For those who wish, donations may be made in Mrs. Flavin's memory to Surry Village Charter School, in care of Matora Fiorey, 11 Village Road, Surry, NH 03431.

The Foley Funeral Home of Keene, NH is assisting the family with the arrangements.
